A busy time for Wessex runners racing across three events on the same day. Spring had truly arrived with morning sunshine and fine weather to start the day. Kevin ran in the Reading half marathon (not for the first time), surviving a near death experience at around the 9km mark. A time of 2:11, notContinue reading “Super Sunday (23rd March 2025)”

CC6 race 7, Itchen Valley Country Park (2) 24/25
The final CC6 of the 24/25 season took us back to Itchen Valley for a second event at this site (following Race 5). It was a cracking morning, very Spring like, with blue skies and a still day – perfect for running. The course was a little different with the start taking place atop aContinue reading “CC6 race 7, Itchen Valley Country Park (2) 24/25”
Winchester 10K 2025
It is always a nice experience to be able to walk, from home, to the start line of a race and the Winchester 10K certainly fulfils that criteria. It is always a well attended event (due to Winchester’s high number of running clubs?) and had sold out with 1300 runners taking part. As a teamContinue reading “Winchester 10K 2025”
CC6 race 6, Badger Farm 24/25
Extremely solid showing by Wessex at Badger Farm. The flag got an outing for the first time in months and the debut of the new tent, which was easier to put up than it was to take down, also has its moment in the winter sun. We had a strong team result and Imy wasContinue reading “CC6 race 6, Badger Farm 24/25”
CC6 race 5, Itchen Valley Country Park 24/25
Race 4 of this year’s had fallen foul of December’s storm Darragh, was cancelled and so we moved on to the first of two races at Itchen Valley. I felt slightly disorganised leading up to the race, we had a number of absentees through injury, illness and other events taking place on the same day.Continue reading “CC6 race 5, Itchen Valley Country Park 24/25”
CC6 race 3, Ocknell campsite, New Forest, 24/25
We managed to field a team … just! This fixture was pretty much the same out-and-back route as last year. A longish walk down a slippery hill to the start. Cruel, because we knew we would have to go up it in the final 500m run to the finish! It was a relatively small fieldContinue reading “CC6 race 3, Ocknell campsite, New Forest, 24/25”
Clarendon Marathon 2024 Relay
One of the club’s goals for 2023/24 was to enter a team in a relay, something the club did, historically, on a regular basis. With our numbers we felt that the South Downs relay was a little ambitious so we decided to start locally with the Clarendon Marathon. The Clarendon has been going for 26Continue reading “Clarendon Marathon 2024 Relay”
RR 10 2024 Race #10 – IBM Hursley
The last RR10 of the year always seems to herald the end of Summer and this year’s race at IBM Hursley certainly felt very autumnal. Cool, grey skies and getting a little dark at the end of the race. It was a large field of runners for the final race and a good turnout fromContinue reading “RR 10 2024 Race #10 – IBM Hursley”
RR 10 2024 Race #8 – Wide Lane
Looking back through some old race reports, at Wide Lane in 2022, the race was taking part in the middle of a heatwave, with some of the highest UK temperatures on record. This was not the case tonight, it was positively chilly as Phil, Chris and myself huddled for warmth awaiting the arrival of RichardContinue reading “RR 10 2024 Race #8 – Wide Lane”
RR10 2024 Race #5 –Ampfield Woods
Not a race in which Wessex took part but organised by ourselves, Running Sisters and Halterworth. All went well, Richard had marked the course up earlier in the day and Wessex were responsible for car parking. A slight blip with nearby IBM concerned about travellers turning up but all smoothed over in the end. TheContinue reading “RR10 2024 Race #5 –Ampfield Woods”
