Not a CC6 we competed in but Wessex (along with Lordshill and Chandlers Ford) were tasked with organising Race #3 of the series and were delegated car parking duties. Richard had already been on site to facilitate delivery of the portaloos (they proved very popular on the day) earlier in the week. Seven Wessex runners (myself,Continue reading “CC6 23/24 Race #3 King’s Garn Enclosure”

CC6 23/24 Race #2 Itchen Valley
Thick mud ✔ Standing water ✔ Bridle path with horse poo ✔ It certainly felt that the winter running had arrived and cross country season started at Itchen Valley this morning. Although this was the second race of the season it was the first that Wessex made it to, following a combination of illness andContinue reading “CC6 23/24 Race #2 Itchen Valley”
RR10 Race 10 @ IBM Hursley
The last race of the series This was a tough race to finish the RR10’s with the always popular IBM race attracting 420 runners. Located just next to Hursley at IBM the positives of the location feature the cricket club house, spacious parking and set up area and a choice of different directions to driveContinue reading “RR10 Race 10 @ IBM Hursley”
RR10 #9 – Badger Farm (2023)
The photo (above) taken at the start of the race, bathed in sunshine, does not represent how things were only a few hours before the race. Torrential downpours with thunder and lightning were centred on Winchester, emails were being sent round warning of cancellations for safety reasons. However things settled down and the forecast forContinue reading “RR10 #9 – Badger Farm (2023)”
RR 10 #8 – Wide Lane (2023)
I appreciate that this is not everyone’s favourite RR10. It is pretty dull, it is surrounded by motorway/railway/airport and is just like running round one big football pitch. However, I like it. It is flat and it is the only course that I remember well, knowing exactly where the finish line is and when itContinue reading “RR 10 #8 – Wide Lane (2023)”
RR10 #7 – River Hamble Country Park Part 2 (2023)
Being from Northern Ireland, originally, I know a thing or two about flags and our new one is a beauty. Well done to Tim for the artwork. It was proudly on display at it’s first race, although it took Andrew (Scout leader) to figure out how put it up properly. This was our second visitContinue reading “RR10 #7 – River Hamble Country Park Part 2 (2023)”
RR10 #4 – Cadland Estate (2023)
The farthest away of this year’s RR10 series (at least from Winchester) required a drive down to the edge of the New Forest, any further and we would have ended up in The Solent. It wasn’t a straightforward trip this year with roadworks, diversions, traffic jams and the occasional pony slowing both Wessex cars down.Continue reading “RR10 #4 – Cadland Estate (2023)”
RR10 – Marwell Zoo
The RR10 series returned to Marwell Zoo after a hiatus of a number of years. And WRR continued the great run streak of having a full team of 5 runners out for every race. Our next target should be a B team, a lofty goal but something which is extremely accomplishable. With 7 runners theContinue reading “RR10 – Marwell Zoo”
RR10 #3 River Hamble Country Park (2023)
Race three of this year’s RR10 was at the River Hamble Country Park, a familiar location on the RR10 calendar and indeed we are back later in the Summer for race number seven. It was a lovely sunny evening and a few dry days beforehand boded well for a fast course with little mud. ChrisContinue reading “RR10 #3 River Hamble Country Park (2023)”
RR10 – Itchen Valley Race #2 (2023)
Race number 2 was back to the familiar setting of Itchen Valley country park. And with thankfully no traffic related mishaps 6 runners safely lined up at the starting line. The only potential hitch was a very stubborn parking machine which refused point blank to take any form of payment, but with plenty of timeContinue reading “RR10 – Itchen Valley Race #2 (2023)”
