After a big gap between fixtures, the RR10 returned at last with the second trip to Itchen Valley Country park of the season. Two unavoidable cancellations meant everyone was more than ready to get back to some running (and cake).
The alternative route this time round featured three visits to the short, sharp hill section -but the weather brought the real challenge for this one. Even at the 7pm start it was still around 30°C, making pacing and hydration the order of the day. Thankfully large sections of the course kept in the shade of the forest, and in an unusual but very welcome move, a water station greeted runners at the start of the second lap — a much‑appreciated touch from our excellent hosts at Hedge End, Netley, and Halterworth. The less formal support from several junior marshals with water pistols also helped… thank you!
A special mention for first time Wessex Road Runner Archie, who chose a furnace of an evening for his first RR10 and rose to it brilliantly — coming home as 3rd scorer for the men’s team. Hope to see you at many more!
But most importantly, huge congratulations to Richard on completing his 200th RR10! An incredible achievement and milestone. The cheers on the finish were fully earned.
Well done to everyone who braved the heat – onwards to the next one at Wide Lane (hopefully *slightly* cooler, and definitely flatter!)
