RR10 2025 #8 – Wide Lane

Race number eight of the season and my favourite race – easy to get to and flat, really flat, with the only ‘hill’ being the up slope after we run through a short underpass. Some say it is a little dull but there were plenty of distractions with other sports on the adjacent pitches –Continue reading “RR10 2025 #8 – Wide Lane”

RR10 2025 #7 Itchen Valley

A return to Itchen Valley Country park for race number 7, expertly hosted this time round by Hedge End and Netley Abbey Runners. As is becoming rather a theme this year, another hot, dry evening! The event started on a sombre note, with a minute’s silence in memory of Claire Browne – a leading lightContinue reading “RR10 2025 #7 Itchen Valley”

CC6 race 6, Badger Farm 24/25

Extremely solid showing by Wessex at Badger Farm. The flag got an outing for the first time in months and the debut of the new tent, which was easier to put up than it was to take down, also has its moment in the winter sun. We had a strong team result and Imy wasContinue reading “CC6 race 6, Badger Farm 24/25”

RR10 – Itchen Valley Race #2 (2023)

Race number 2 was back to the familiar setting of Itchen Valley country park. And with thankfully no traffic related mishaps 6 runners safely lined up at the starting line. The only potential hitch was a very stubborn parking machine which refused point blank to take any form of payment, but with plenty of timeContinue reading “RR10 – Itchen Valley Race #2 (2023)”

RR10 Whiteshute Ridge, Badger Farm (2022)

After the flat, open spaces at the previous RR10 (Wide Lane) this race was a different kettle of fish. Runners, some tents and flags were packed onto Whiteshute Ridge (Badger Farm, Winchester) for the penultimate RR10 of the season. It seemed more like a budget Glastonbury than a trail race, with not enough room toContinue reading “RR10 Whiteshute Ridge, Badger Farm (2022)”

CC6 Fleming Park

The final CC6 of the season was back to Fleming Park for a three lap course. The weather was unseasonably warm and very un-cross country like with firm conditions underfoot and not a hint of mud anywhere. There was a rumour that Derek was all set to win this season’s V70 category but this wasContinue reading “CC6 Fleming Park”

CC6 Holmsley

New cross country venue in the New Forest Perhaps keen to work off the many mince pies consumed over Christmas, six Wessex runners eagerly attended this new venue at Holmsey campsite. Richard, Doug, Phil, Nigel, Derek and Mike braved the cold conditions but were treated to some sporadic bright sunshine in the first race ofContinue reading “CC6 Holmsley”

RR10 Fleming park (2021)

RR10 returns after 707 days The Tokyo Olympics were not the only great sporting event to be delayed from 2020. It was exactly 707 days since Wessex Road Runners last competed at the final RR10 of 2019, IBM Hursley. I’m sure none of us could have anticipated the events of the months in-between the twoContinue reading “RR10 Fleming park (2021)”
