The final CC6 of the season was back to Fleming Park for a three lap course. The weather was unseasonably warm and very un-cross country like with firm conditions underfoot and not a hint of mud anywhere. There was a rumour that Derek was all set to win this season’s V70 category but this was quickly quashed by Derek himself – I was slightly disappointed.

Four Wessex runners made it to the start (Phil, myself, Derek and Richard), enough for a team result. It was a slightly smaller turnout than expected, perhaps a combination of other cross country races that day and Mother’s Day. There was plenty of space at the start and with the smaller field not too much jostling for space. The course was pretty familiar by now, a long, flat start / finish section with three loops around the old golf course, ascending and descending each time. All four Wessex runners came in safely – Phil (38), Nigel (84), Derek (99) and Richard (101).

Results are available (including end of season table) at http://www.cc6.co.uk/ – Derek did finish as runner-up in the V70 category and Phil an excellent 44th overall for the season.
