RR 10 2024 Race #10 – IBM Hursley

The last RR10 of the year always seems to herald the end of Summer and this year’s race at IBM Hursley certainly felt very autumnal. Cool, grey skies and getting a little dark at the end of the race. It was a large field of runners for the final race and a good turnout from Wessex, almost having a B team if it wasn’t for Derek’s dodgy hamstring (too much tennis I suspect). We even had a new recruit, Alasdair Smyth, possibly one of the youngest runners in the field, using the race for some pre-season football fitness.

It was the same course as last year, two loops of IBM’s grounds with a final lap of a cricket pitch, hopefully with a fast finish. The course was nice and dry, not too many obstacles – other than a few low hanging branches. No excuses not to have a fast race, other than there never seemed to be a flat bit of ground to run on, it was constantly up and down, making it difficult to get any kind of rhythm going.

Everyone home safe with more excellent runs from Phil (114) and Andrew (137). Alasdair went off a little fast (it’s further than a Parkrun!) and slowed at the end (176). Myself (185), Chris (235), Kevin (258), David (266), Richard (267) and Andy C (268) finished in that order.

Well done to Andrew Shire for being the top Wessex runner in the league in the league this year, finishing 117th out of 618 runners.

There isn’t much time before the CC6 starts (end of September) and hoping to squeeze the AGM in before this.
