CC6 23/24 Race#7 Itchen Valley

The final race of this year’s CC6 was back at Itchen Valley for a repeat run of the season opener, although with a slightly different route. It was a pretty quiet event with just over 200 runners and five Wessex runners made it to the start.

With seemingly weeks of rain, not unexpectedly the course was pretty wet, the grassy, open areas were saturated and churned up pretty quickly making for heavy going. Fortunately, however, more of the course this time was on paths, allowing a little respite. Despite the wet course the weather was good, Spring was in the air but unfortunately so were swarms of (biting) flies.

Notable events during the race – a couple of comments from the marshals about Wessex having new kit and how good it looked (well done again Tim) and there was an innovation of the organising teams providing some runners to support those racing who may have become separated from the pack (it worked well and perhaps something we should consider for our events).

Andrew led the for Wessex with another solid run finishing 71st, myself (99), David H (104) and Richard (108) out of a field of 120. Katie finished 76th out of a field of 80.

This was the last race of this year’s CC6, certainly we put out fewer runners compared to the RR10, perhaps explaining why we finished second from bottom (just ahead of Halterworth) of the league table. Something to discuss at the AGM I think!

Onwards to the new RR10 season, first race in late April.
