CC6 2025/26 #5 – Itchen Valley

A ‘light’ turnout for Wessex at Itchen Valley this morning. Other races, busy lives and some illness reduced the field to only myself, Andrew and Will Banks (having not yet left to return to University). Unfortunately with Richard absent there was no tent or flag to gather round but fortunately Derek (despite his broken finger) was there to support and look after our kit.

The weather was excellent for running, not too cold, the rain stayed off and there was only a light breeze. With the good conditions (and perhaps New Year resolutions) numbers were excellent with a strong turnout from other Clubs. Although dry in the air it was still pretty wet underfoot, with some boggy grass and puddles on the paths but nowhere near as soggy as it has been in previous years.

The pre-race instructions worked very well, with everybody keenly listening and able to hear for a change. The CC6 / RR10 megaphone worked well, in combination with standing on a ladder.

The course was the ‘traditional’ one with one small loop on trail, followed by two longer loops with a mix of open grass and more trails through the woods. There was the usual hill on the two longer loops but it seemed tamer than I remembered it (getting fitter? Unlikely).

All three of us safely round with Will leading the way (34), Andrew having a competitive race (71) and myself bringing up the rear (119). Unfortunately not enough for a team result but there is always next month – 8th February at everyone’s ‘favourite’ race location Badger Farm.
