CC6 2025/26 #3 – Roundhill

The third CC6 race of the season was on Sunday 9th November at Roundhill in the New Forest, organised by Romsey Road Runners and Southampton Tri Club. Lots of members clearly have other commitments at this time of year so there was a low turnout from Wessex, although we still had enough runners for a men’s team. Richard was also there to add his support and practical skills packing away the tent.

Those who did make it were rewarded with a beautiful sunny morning and stunning autumn colours in the Forest, with groups of friendly ponies looking on. Directions were straightforward, and there were plenty of marshals around to direct us to parking spaces. It was a bit of a chilly 10 minute walk from the parking area to the start and, being Remembrance Sunday, we observed a one minute silence before setting off.

The course itself was a figure of eight, starting with an initial short downhill section then following a mostly flat route along gravel tracks through the Forest. There was one short muddy section but this was easily navigated and well marshalled, then an uphill finish back to the start point. Richard was on hand halfway up the hill to encourage those of us who were flagging by that stage!

The route was slightly shorter that some of the others and, since it was mostly flat and on gravel, it was possible to keep up a good pace. Of the Wessex runners, Peter came in first (74), spurred on no doubt by his impending big birthday, followed in order by Chris (145), Kevin (156) and David H (163). The walk back to the car park was worth the effort for the excellent selection of homemade cakes provided by the organisers, which were munched by the lake with the ponies looking on.

Overall a very enjoyable run, well organised in beautiful scenery and definitely one to watch out for next year.
