Being from Northern Ireland, originally, I know a thing or two about flags and our new one is a beauty. Well done to Tim for the artwork. It was proudly on display at it’s first race, although it took Andrew (Scout leader) to figure out how put it up properly.
This was our second visit to the Hamble this year, a slightly different course with slightly different parking – a long walk to get to the start (and less appealingly a long walk again at the end of the race). A very strong showing from Wessex with a team of eight (plus Peter and Derek in support). Perhaps we will be able to field a second team?! It was great to see David Seymour back running again, strengthening the team results.
A packed starting line as always and a tight first kilometre to get going with some standing water – a personal mistake by myself with a shoelace coming undone early. Wisely reminded by David H at the end to tuck them in. An undulating course but it opened up nicely down towards the river with a gravel path. A loop back through the farm and then to the finish, again with a nasty hill a few hundred meters before the line.
Excellent runs from Phil and Andrew this evening, with strong finishes. Everyone home safely in the order – Phil (83), Andrew (127), David S (183), Chris (188), Nigel (192), David H (202), Kevin (213) and Richard (221).
Another strong team result adding to a result for every fixture this year, hopefully we can keep this up for all the races.
