The farthest away of this year’s RR10 series (at least from Winchester) required a drive down to the edge of the New Forest, any further and we would have ended up in The Solent. It wasn’t a straightforward trip this year with roadworks, diversions, traffic jams and the occasional pony slowing both Wessex cars down.
It was a welcome visit to the New Forest. In previous years races here were common but new rules, restricting access due to nesting birds, have limited the opportunity. I believe Cadland is still accessible as it is a private estate.
Seven Wessex runners ran this evening and it was beautiful conditions, warm and dry. A short stroll from the car park, a couple of gates to clamber over (locked) and a slow walk in a loop to the start. The course was pretty uneven in places, quite rutted, lots of scattered branches, some tight turns and the low sun affected visibility so careful foot placement was important.
All Wessex runners home safely in order – Men : Phil (88), Nigel (164), Chris (201), David H (209), Kevin (221) and Richard (230). Women : Katie (150). Another team result for the men with five finishers.
An enjoyable run, despite the difficulty getting there. Although disaster struck after the finish – there were no cakes left. Inspiration to run quicker next time to ensure calorie replacement.
