CC6 Holmsley

New cross country venue in the New Forest

Perhaps keen to work off the many mince pies consumed over Christmas, six Wessex runners eagerly attended this new venue at Holmsey campsite. Richard, Doug, Phil, Nigel, Derek and Mike braved the cold conditions but were treated to some sporadic bright sunshine in the first race of 2022.

This was a well marshalled route which included plenty of roots, puddles and mud. The start was a brief dash across fairly smooth grass which then took us into the undulating gravel and softer paths around the inclosure, one particularly long and steep bit was a challenge but the route featured some nice downhill sections to build up some speed and was for the most part true under foot. A total length of just under 5 miles with a grassy and flat sprint at the end with the finishing funnel in sight.

The consensus from everyone was that this was an enjoyable route and location. With six runners we had a team of four plus two spare, so this attendance bodes well for the next CC6!

Next race is a return to Roundhills on the 30th January.
